If you’re a contractor a subcontractor, or you provide materials to someone’s home or commercial real estate and you haven’t been paid, you have a certain period of time in which you can file a lien on that property. The benefit of filing that lien is that you can use the value of the property to ensure payment based upon what’s called a foreclosure of that lien. Another benefit is that the Florida lien laws allow for attorney’s fees to be awarded to the prevailing party.
